Top reasons to visit London at least once

Top reasons to visit London at least once

We might be biased, but we think the British capital is somewhere people should visit at least once in their life! This multi-cultural city is alive with unique people and places and you’ll never be stuck for things to do! Don’t believe us? Then read on to see why our hotel near King’s Cross thinks you should visit…

It has a gruesome history

London was home to the country's most notorious criminal - Jack the Ripper, but his real identity has never been discovered. There’s a number of different people ‘suspected’ to be him including ‘Alice in Wonderland’ author Lewis Carroll and even Prince Albert! The Great Plague is also etched in London’s history as this deadly disease wiped out around 25 million people (around a third of Europe’s population in the 15th Century). London was greatly affected due to its narrow streets and lack of sanitation. Find out about more about London’s gruesome history when you visit The London Dungeons

You could have travelled differently on the tube

Love it or loathe it the underground is a stroke of genius! Connecting all of London by underground tubes is a great thing, but did you know you could have been travelling on water? That’s right when the idea was first pitched to engineers they suggested filling the tunnel with water and wanted people to use barges to float from stop to stop. The idea of using horses to pull the carriages was also put forward, but in the end, they just opted for the trains!

Becoming a black cab driver isn’t easy

Ever hopped in a black cab in London and wondered how the driver knew all the shortcuts? Well, they’ve actually studied for years to know the city inside and out!

All drivers need to complete a test called ‘The Knowledge’ where they must memorise every street in the capital. This is no easy task, many of the drivers even walk around every part of the city to make sure they know all the side streets and alleys! So next time you think of getting an Uber, why not opt for a black cab? These guys really know their stuff, plus you might find out some fun stories along the way as well!

London’s home to famous faces

It will come as no surprise, but London is home to hundreds of famous faces! But do you know about some of the forgotten ones? Celebs such as Karl Marx, Charles Darwin, Florence Nightingale and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart have all called London their home, at some point in their life. Jimi Hendrix is another famous face who chose London and his former flat has now been turned into a museum! If you’re a fan of his it’s definitely worth a look on your next visit to the capital.

There are over 170 museums

As well as there being over 300 languages spoken in London, it’s also home to over 170 different museums which only adds to the unique culture.  From the Natural History Museum and KidZania to Victoria & Albert and the Science Museum, you’ll never be stuck for things to do. Plus, there’s something to suit everyone! When you’re all worn out, our comfy budget hotel in London is waiting to welcome you!

Comfort Inn Kings Cross Reviews

I stayed here in December on business and it was really good, excellent location near Kings cross. It's on a quiet street has excellent security and the room was great. It was one of the comfiest beds I have stayed in for a while! Great pillows, warm but not too stuffy and plenty of storage with a large walk in shower.

It's a old building and I had a basement room which was really good, very clean, big bathroom and great attention to detail. It was a very good price which had worried me but honestly I can't recommend it enough. Would absolutely stay again and would recommend it as a good option for business and leisure.

Heacham, Norfolk

We required a hotel for a one night theatre visit, we found this and were very happy with both the price and quality. The room was excellent with the breakfast more than adequate. The hotel is about five to ten minutes walk from Kings Cross Station with its excellent underground facilities. The hotel allowed us to drop off our overnight bag during our trip so we were free to walk around unhindered, overall very good. Would certainly use again.

I stayed in this hotel with my daughter when she needed to catch the Eurostar early in the morning. The room was clean and comfortable with a good shower en suite. Unfortunately my daughter was not able to have breakfast before she had to go and check in for her train, but the hotel is so conveniently close to St Pancras station that I was able to go back for my own breakfast once she had left. There was a good variety of food on offer. Overall, I was very pleased with this hotel for the price I paid.

Good price, clean and smart room with a decent continental breakfast. Very quiet location. Very close to King's Cross / St Pancras stations so very handy for getting to Scotland or the Midlands. The Tube runs from Heathrow directly to king's Cross. Easy to get around London from here, by bus or Tube.

I was expecting something basic for the price but was pleasantly surprised. For £70 per night this was very good, not easy to find a decent room for this price right in the middle of London. The room was spotlessly clean and very nicely done out with modern, good quality fittings. There were all the extras you need including hair dryer, tea/coffee making facilities, TV, alarm clock and even a fan, which was very welcome given the temperature. Their was also AC in the room so this wasn't essential but a nice touch. The room had all the other usual things you would expect, TV, good shower and very comfortable bed.

Breakfast (continental) was functional but very good with plenty on offer. It was clean and an attentive waitress was watching over to make sure everything was regularly topped up and cleaned. Reception staff were very friendly and for some reason I was upgraded to a double room which was a pleasant surprise. All in all a very good find and I will definitely be using this again for business or short trips to London.

We stayed at this hotel for one night following our return from Paris via Eurostar. I had been a bit confused by the name 'Comfort Inn', thinking it would be a modern building, but in fact it is a conversion of several old terrace houses in St Chad's Street.

Our room was comfortable with a window that thankfully opened. We can never understand why some places seal their windows shut - we like to get some air into our room. So that was a plus. Also the tea and coffee making facilities and the excellent shower. We liked the (included) breakfast, too, and would definitely stay here again.

Stayed for one night with my son for a sight seeing weekend. Reception staff were more than helpful and very polite. The twin room had everything that was needed and was exceptionally clean. Less than 5 minute walk from Kings Cross. Would definitely stay here again.

£90 for a single room including breakfast 2 mins walk from Kings Cross station, complete bargain. The room was very clean, newly decorated, and had a comfy bed, large shower, blackout curtains, air-con, TV, tea/coffee/biscuits and a hairdryer. For the price I was very impressed and would recommend highly. Front desk staff were top class too even when confronted with a slightly tipsy check in at 12:30 at night!

Myself and eleven others stayed here in six twin rooms in February. We were all pleasantly surprised by how nice the rooms were. Modern, clean and everything we wanted.

Breakfast was self service continental down in the basement with a good choice. All in all could not fault it. Ideally situated near Kings Cross.

Hong Kong

This hotel is very friendly and has helpful receptionists. They will also look after your luggage after check out. You can pick up your stuff just before departure with Eurostar.

The room is very clean and comfortable. The breakfast is excellent and the staff in the breakfast room are quick to serve you in a friendly manner. In summary the hotel is excellent for a short term stay!
